"All are embers before His will."
The 2nd Company of the Alfa Legion is the middle ground between the bike-focused, rapid assaults of 3rd Company and the superheavy firepower of 4th company. Focusing on a steady balance between the standard Tactical Marines as infantry, equipped with a variety of weapons, who support Astartes tanks. The Predator is the most often-fielded vehicle in the company, alongside the humble Rhino - but it frequently makes use of Land Speeders to scout out weak points in the enemy, or to break through enemy lines by the use of Land Raider variants. Although it does not have the punch nor the speed of the other mechanised companies, the 2nd Company is a solid, immovable fighting force, with Marines tough as nails, with the treads of tanks rumbling to meet the opposition in glorious combat. The company lives up to its moniker of the "Armoured Assault".
Specialization and Doctrine
The Company's most apparent and obvious strength is in its armour; many of its Marines are trained in piloting a multitude of vehicles, both tanks and Land Speeders. Combining this with the varied firepower from its foot-based Tactical Squads, be it the humble bolter or the thunderous boom of a plasma cannon, it specialises in ranged combat, a far cry from the melee-focused assaults of 7th or 12th Companies. However, they are certainly no slouches in close range.
Most squad Sergeants are equipped with melee weapons which allow them to deal with close-range threats, and many of the Astartes under the company undergo training techniques to counter melee-range foes in unconventional ways - be it with the standard issue Astartes combat knife, the Marine's fists, or even his powered boots. It is not unheard of for Tacticals hefting a cumbersome heavy weapon such as a lascannon or a multi-melta to be caught out by Orks who have flanked them, only for the greenskins to be sent reeling by the force of power-armoured bootheels colliding with their faces. These hardy Marines are often found within the confines of Rhinos or Land Raiders before deployment, and tend to approach via steady advance. The bread-and-butter of its Tactical Squads, the bolter-wielding Marines, tend to find themselves at the forefront, protecting the bearers of such relic weaponry like the plasma gun or a heavier weapon such as a heavy bolter, which often requires a setup period.
When Second Company mobilises and attacks its foes, one of its signature tactics is heralded by squads of Land Speeders; the majority being Typhoons, and even the occasional Tempest patterns roll in to lay down suppressing fire and scout any areas, then quickly fly away with their findings and leaving an enemy open to the next attack. This is a double-edged sword, since the first stage is a hit-and-run tactic which can sometimes make or break the next battle if the eyes in the sky are shot down.
When the Land Speeders return to the remaining force, the tanks lumber forth; Predators serving as the first line of defense, laying down autocannon or lascannon fire from Destructor and Annihilator patterns, covering the Land Raiders who seek to deploy its troops within alongside Rhinos and Razorbacks.
Finally, 2nd Company has close connections to the Forge - meaning that they have reign over much of the Alfa Legion's motor pool. However, more specialised vehicles such as Whirlwinds or superheavy tanks such as Fellblades fall within the jurisdiction of 11th and 4th Companies respectively. The 2nd Company force, at its barest, is forced to rely on lascannons and Hunter-Killer missiles in order to take down foes at long range, an option it does not always have. While the company is at its best when in close to mid-range combat, it suffers at longer ranges, and is especially vulnerable to anti-tank weaponry.

Training
The additional training on new Marines as they arrive consist of the following;
Driving and piloting training to learn the ins-and-outs of the Company's vehicles
Heavy weapons training, as most Tactical Squads will have one heavy weapon operator and one special weapon operator
Advanced ranged weapons training
Weapons smithing and armour maintenance - Company initiates learn to look after their own gear, and even forge their own weapons
Tactical Marine training, including strategies and tactical maneuvers
Due to the lack of Assault Marines, most Astartes within the Company cannot approach in melee combat quickly, without Jump Packs, and therefore its Marines do not often equip melee weapons unless the environment or the current situation favours them. Marines in 2nd Company undergo advanced unarmed training to hone the Marine's armour-clad fists and heavy boots as weapons in their own right. The void of Devastator Marines are fulfilled by Tactical Squads banding together and focus-firing with their selected heavy weapon operators, although this takes time and coordination.
