Iotic Stormhawks
Summary: The Iotic Stormhawks are Scions, the elite troops of the Militarum Tempestus, and are amongst the finest human troops the sector can offer. Trained to know only two things – eternal love of the Emperor and undying hate of the foe – each man and woman of the Tempestus is a battle-hardened killer, able to undertake special operations that no other regiment can achieve. In particular, the Stormhawks have made themselves infamous for their xenocidal nature and proficiency with boarding assaults, making them a powerful counter to the alien corsairs plaguing the Calypso Subsector.
Regimental History: The Iotic Stormhawks have existed for as long as their facility has been in orbit around Providence XI, and have maintained an exemplary record from the get-go. Scions have been present in almost every major crusade in Skalholm, albeit often in very small numbers, most notably in the recent Hydrophon Reach Crusade, wherein 78th Regiment assisted the Alfa Legion and a mixed Imperial Guard Battlegroup in reclaiming the Providence system itself from an invasion of greenskins.
The Stormhawks have also held strong ties with, of all things, a House of Rogue Traders. A mutual defence pact signed between both parties in ages past has ensured a beneficial relationship between both groups. The Scions gain increased access to hassle-free transport and hard-to-acquire materials, as well as the added bonus of combat practice should anyone try to board the Traders’ vessels. In turn, the Trader House faces fewer inter-House challenges thanks to the presence of a Stormtrooper Regiment, and their ships are well-protected against pirate raids. This interaction with the Traders makes Stormhawk Tempestors of all types more capable of communing with common citizenry: after all, the verbose and very talkative Traders quickly rub off on their sterner counterparts.
Homeworld: Militarum Tempestus Training Facility MT-1138, more commonly nicknamed the Stormhold by other Imperial personnel. It is part of a larger Schola Progenium complex which also produces progena for the Commissariat, Arbites, Sororitas, Administratum, and even the Inquisition. The base is situated on Lordrac, one of the moons of Providence XI (a lifeless world valuable only for the self-same moon), in the Providence system of Subsector Calypso.
Recruitment: Scions are recruited as standard from the most ferocious Schola recruits, who originate from all over the sector, though their varied backgrounds and opposing cultures rarely survive beyond the mental remoulding procedures. Extremely talented Guardsmen and Guardswomen of the subsector regiments can, in extraordinary cases, be seconded to the Schola for Tempestus training: these recruits are treated no differently by the Drill Abbots, and still result in a highly skilled killing machine, albeit one that is assigned back to their parent regiment as part of their Grenadier divisions.
Regimental Organisation: The Stormhawks fall directly under the command of the Ordo Tempestus, and are deployed to assist local regiments as needed. The regiment comprises roughly 190 men, split evenly into five 35-man platoons, each containing three 10-man Scion squads led by a Tempestor, and one 5-man command squad led by a Tempestor Prime. The regiment itself is led by a veteran Tempestor-Prime and his own 5-man command squad, as well as any attached Commissars.
Wargear: The Stormhawks share the following standard-issue wargear, specialist issue items notwithstanding.
Individual Equipment:
Squad Equipment:
Squad Vehicles:
Notable Troopers:
Tempestor-Prime Thomas Kensington: Commander of 78th Regiment. Still in-system during the Hydrophon Reach Crusade, the force made itself known spearheading several brutal assaults against Steelgutz’ orks alongside Battlegroup Stanchion and the Alfa Legion. Tempestor-Prime Kensington led the final cleansing of Providence XVII’s primary cathedral-citadel himself alongside the Adepta Sororitas, removing the greenskin taint from the God-Emperor’s Shrine World.
